Sinopsis cerita:

Bawang Putih yang mengerjakan semua pekerjaan rumah tangga. Suatu hari ketika mencuci baju di sungai, Bawang Putih tidak menyadari sepotong pakaian terseret arus. Ketika Bawang Putih mencari baju itu oleh perintah ibu tirinya, dia bertanya kepada Buto Ijo. Buto Ijo meminta Bawang Putih ke rumahnya, dan membersihkan rumahnya. Besoknya Buto Ijo memberikan pakaian itu dan sebuah melon untuk Bawang Putih. Setiba di rumah, ibu tirinya membukanya dan melihat emas, perak, dan batu berharga. Bawang Merah pun ingin mendapat barang berharga seperti itu, dia pergi ke rumah Buto Ijo. Namun, dia tidak mau membersihkan rumah Buto Ijo, dan segera berpamitan pulang. Bawang Merah diberi melon oleh Buto Ijo dan setelah dibuka, didapatinya serangga, ular, kalajengking, dan lain-lain. Mak Dadapan dan Bawang Merah yang serakah lari ketakutan.
